Tree number 8, $50 for approximately 1.8m3 of solid wood, is available to purchase for firewood for $50.00. From our shelterbelt at Loburn, Rangiora, the tree has been down since the end of March. If it is split soon and left in the weather to season, it will be OK for spring fires this year and perfect for next year. Firewood tree #8 isn’t pretty but it is loaded with pinecones. That’s partly because it’s more branchy but each whorl of pinecones is densely packed. I’ll post soon on how I get the best out of these pinecone whorls.
Tree 8 also had a significant lean and heavy branching. So it would best suit someone with access to a log splitter. On the plus side the leaning trunk and heavy branches result in reaction wood which is much denser than normal so it will burn longer and make better coals.

But back to the tree, that’s 1.8m3 of estimated solid log volume (55cm base diameter and 18.5m long) plus branches, and pinecones are a bonus. A typical merchants cubic metre is not stacked so can have up to around 40% air, even a cord (3.6m3 stacked) has a lot of air, this is 1.5m3 of solid wood plus branches and pinecones.
$50 for as much of the tree as you want but it’s up to you to cut it up, remove it and make a heap of the light branch material that you don’t want. For an additional fee, I can help with the chainsaw work.
